Episode 04 - Wind and Terra turn evil? The girls are tested.

The huge tree blanketed the ground beneath it with a cooling shade. Tsukino Usagi sat under the tree with her friends at Juuban High School. It was lunch time and was usually the blonde's favorite time of the day but she could not break herself from the deep thoughts that filled her mind. Her mind wandered toward the four girls from the Planet Academy. "Could they really be the cause of this new enemy? It's odd how trouble always happens when they're around, but that doesn't mean they're the cause. I just can't sense any bad feelings from them."

The worry in her mind slowly diminished as a new thought replaced it. "The new power Mamo-chan and I have found is so strong. It's like warmth growing inside of me. The feeling I had whenever I changed into the princess is now the same feeling I get when I change into Sailor Moon. I wonder if Mamo-chan feels it."

Noticing the distant look on Usagi's face Ami tried to catch her attention. She waved a hand at her in hopes to catch her eye. "Usagi-chan? Are you okay?"

The movements from the blue-haired girl did not take effect at first. After hearing the girl's soft-spoken voice repeat her name the odango-atama snapped back to reality. "A-Ami-chan! I... I'm fine."

Ami leaned back and smiled. As she took a bite of her sandwich she glanced around their group. Her eyes moved first to Makoto who had really started to take on a more feminine appeal. Truly she was becoming much more confident about herself and even had received a couple love letters as of late. She glanced at Minako next only to find her teasing Usagi playfully. Although Minako had toned down in her obnoxious nature she still had not lost her natural spunk.

Suddenly a shout of warning broke out and Ami watched in horror as ball zipped through the air straight at Minako. She winced as the tiny missile struck her friend in the face. After a few minutes of recovery, Minako jumped up in a huff but when she saw the culprit was cute member of the opposite sex she halted. Ami couldn't help but laugh as she enjoyed the show of the blonde with an angry red mark on her cheek flirting outrageously. She wasn't sure whether the fact that her friend was thinking seriously of finding a boyfriend instead of playing around so much was a healthy thing or not. Ami thought of Rei, even though her fiery friend was not with them. She wondered if they should stop by the temple after school and whether Minako would tease Rei about Yuuichirou if they caught them together again. Finally, Rei was finding more than just friendship in the strange guy who had been staying at the shrine ever since he laid eyes on the dark haired priestess. The two were finally hitting it off.

Her eyes once again rested on Usagi. She smiled, thinking, "I'm happy Usagi-chan has a new power. It was really troubling her that she couldn't protect us. She has come a long way since I first met her, so has Mamoru-san, and everyone. I am glad to be with everyone. They've proven, so many times, their abilities to care and protect. I can't think of better people that I would want to spend my future with."

Bunny's head shot up from her drawing when the shrill school bell sounded to dismiss the students for the day. Quick as lightening, she gathered her stuff and ran to her dorm. She was thrilled when she arrived before the others. She dropped her books on her bed and looked at the uniform she wore. "No time to change. I've gotta leave before anyone comes to interrupt me."

Bunny dashed from the room and in her hurry she didn't notice the young girl standing outside the door. The two collided and greeted the floor, bottom first. Bunny jumped to her feet, then bowed in apology. The other girl flipped her head back indignantly before standing to her feet. "Can't you ever watch where you're going?"

"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm--" Bunny's fervent pleas for forgiveness ended abruptly when she saw the person before her. "Oh, it's you."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Melody hissed, "I could have been killed and all you have to offer is 'oh, it's you'."

"Well, you didn't lose any body parts and with the way you're carrying on I'm assuming you're fine. Anyway, I'm in a hurry so I'll see ya later. Bye."

Bunny left Melody to fume and hurried on her way. Inches away from freedom of the building, Bunny passed a tall, black haired girl. When she did so, a chill ran through her but was long forgotten the instant she entered the bright day outside. Still, a feeling deep inside compelled her to peek back at the girl but Bunny didn't look long out of fear she would plow down another person.

Melody entered the dorm to find she was alone. She picked up the phone and her fingers swiftly dialed a long distance number. She listened to it ring, hoping against hope that it would be different this time, that they would be there, but knowing they would be gone. Finally a maid answered, "Monsieur Agace's residence."

"Is mama or papa in?" Melody asked, trying to keep her voice from trembling.

"Oh, mademoiselle Melody! How wonderful to hear your voice. Is all well there?"

"Yes, everything is fine. I just wanted to say hello to my parents. Are they home?" Melody took a deep breath and waited.

"I'm sorry mademoiselle, but your parents are away on vacation. I can give you the number to their hotel."

"No, that's alright. They probably wouldn't be there anyway."

"I'm sorry. Mademoiselle, everyone in the household misses your lovely plays," the maid offered, trying to cheer up Melody.

"Thank you for your concern. Aurevoir."

"Aurevoir, mademoiselle."

Melody sighed as she replaced the receiver. She collapsed on her bed and allowed the tears to flow freely down her cheeks. "Why can't they be there for me just once? Just once... All my life being spent in boarding school, coming home for holidays or calling and my parents never being home. I'm just so sick of it! Sick of it all!"

Melody pulled out her diary. Needing to put her thoughts to paper she began to write.

'I remember when I tried to tell my nanny how I felt but that didn't go well. She said I should be thankful for all the beautiful things and chances for a good life they give me. I suppose I should be, but I'd rather have mama and papa. I hardly even know them.'

'My fondest memory is putting on plays or playing my instruments for the servants. Sometimes even my parents would watch. For a moment I would be special. When the opportunity fell into my lap to attend this school, of course I'd jump at it. A chance to eat, breathe and sleep stage life. How could I possibly pass up my destiny?'

'Now I'm here and having fun playing as a soldier. Even though that Bunny is insufferable it is nice to have someone around. I just wish... I wish... I don't know what I wish.' The tearful cries of Melody drifted through the mind of her enemy. A shadowed form had been listening to her psychically and an evil grin spread across its lips.

Mamoru turned the corner of a building. He stopped when a strange feeling tugged at him. He cocked his head slightly to look behind him but there was nothing there. Shaking it off, he continued on his way until he ran into Haruka and Michiru who were coming out of the coffee shop. They began to tell them there was going to be a meeting at Makoto's apartment later and for him and Usagi to be there on time. The three stood talking when Michiru noticed a figure crouched behind a bush. Smiling, she nudged Haruka who looked in the directing of her partner's gaze. Haruka's expression was a little confused as Michiru asked Mamoru, "So, who's your friend?"

Mamoru looked behind him. Seeing a flash of brown hair and a Planet Academy uniform he realized who it was. Bunny rose from her hiding place, knowing she had been discovered. She gave a rather sheepish look as Haruka and Michiru approached her. "You're one of the academy girls," Mamoru stated. "Bunny-chan, isn't it?"

"Um... Yeah, my name is Bunny. I'm surprised you recognize me. I was just... uh, I dropped my... um... uh... well, it all started with..." she fumbled over the words to explain what she was doing in her somewhat broken Japanese.

His smile reassured her he was amused, not angry. The knowledge calmed Bunny a bit, but she felt a lingering nervousness. The four shared normal conversation but soon Haruka and Michiru excused themselves. They had many things to do that day. Alone together, Bunny walked with the dark haired man and they enjoyed each other's company. Mamoru took on a serious face. "Bunny-chan, the first time we met, a strange feeling passed through me. The same feelings are here now. I... I can't explain why. If there's something you need to say, something you're hiding then..."

The academy girl's adoring smile left her lips quickly. A frown soon replaced it and Mamoru pardoned his strange behavior. As he began to change the subject Bunny thought to herself. "I'm being silly. I knew the real reason he felt anything was because we're his protectors, not because he loves me. I know he doesn't love me, but I can't help these strong feelings I have."

Seeing Usagi nearing them, Bunny quickly excused herself. She ran around the corner of the shops just as Usagi took Mamoru's arm. She stood with her back against the cold wall for a short while, then peered around the building. She watched, enviously, the couple walk away. "How I wish I could be loved like that," she said angrily to the empty air.

Kino Makoto's house was bustling with excitement. Minako sat on the floor with Rei and Ami. Hotaru and Setsuna worked side by side, getting plates and forks together. Haruka and Michiru walked in with handfuls of flowers. Makoto came out of the kitchen with a three decker cake and set her masterpiece on the little table in her dining room. The girls gathered at the table when the cats called, "They're here, get ready!"

They sat in silence while Makoto went to answer the door. When she opened it, Mamoru and Usagi waited with serious faces. She let the guests into her apartment and after they had taken their shoes off she led them to the living room. "SURPRISE!" Greeted the girls.

Usagi and Mamoru gasped in surprise. When Mamoru met up with Haruka and Michiru earlier they had led him to believe there was a meeting being held about the new enemy. Instead he found a party set up to celebrate their years as sailor soldiers, planned by none other than Mizuno Ami.

"I can't believe you didn't let me in about the plans!" Usagi cried in mock indignation.

Everyone laughed, and Minako commented, "Now what fun would that have been? Would you like some cake?"

Usagi's eyes sparkled at the waiting goody. "Definitely."

It was nine o' clock. Oceanna sat on her bed staring at her homework. She closed her book when she realized she had read the same paragraph five times. Her mind just was not on her studies. Too many things kept circling around in her head. She thought about Bunny's comment on their rings. For as long as she could remember she had that ring and she began to wonder if the same went for the others. All this time they had something so powerful, something that could transform them into a soldier, on their fingers.

She began to worry as she thought about her friend. Bunny had not been seen since after classes had let out. Suddenly, the door burst open and the object of her worry entered the room. The dark haired girl ran into her friend's arms, trying to hold back tears. Judging from her friend's actions, Oceanna decided it was best not to ask what had happened. Pepper moved toward Bunny to see what was wrong, but before she could, all four girls dropped in pain. Each one felt a stabbing sensation spread from their hands to their hearts.

At that moment, Mamoru stood in his kitchen with blood running down his finger. He had cut himself while trimming an apple with a sharp knife. He moved to the sink to clean his wound. It was not deep so he simply placed a band-aid over it, did not give the incident another thought.

The pain had knocked them out mentally. A dream swept through Melody's mind as she laid unconscious along with the others. It consisted of a jumble of horrid images that filled her with hate. Slowly the four girls awoke in a confused state. They questioned each other without a word.

Deep within the boiler room, the shadowed form laughed with pleasure. Slowly it was sending more and more surges of black energy into the school's students. Those infected would not be able to control themselves and their inner most fears would overtake them. The shadowy form took shape and moved about on sturdy legs. Power was growing by the minute for the form. "The time is drawing near," it mumbled to itself, "when I shall take control of all that is due to me."

The next day at lunch the four girl sat beneath a shaded tree. The events which had taken place were past but not forgotten, though not one talked of the incident. Instead they discussed their upcoming concert. Bunny was assigned in decorating the stage with painting since her major was art. They agreed that it would be best if Oceanna sung lead again but Melody donned a sour expression. "Why does she get to be the lead every time? I think someone else should get a turn."

While a stunned Pepper and Oceanna gaped at Melody, Bunny's own thoughts turned to a different subject. "Oh, Mamoru-sama! You're so handsome and kind. I wish we could be together. I'm so tired of being alone. It would be so nice it... if..."

Something tugged at Bunny's mind. She tried to force the new idea from her head, but failed. "If Usagi was out of the way you could have Mamoru all to yourself."

Oceanna tapped her friend on the shoulder and in reaction she released a tiny squeak. Bunny tried to clear her head by shaking it, then looked guiltily at her friends. She suddenly stood up and ran off leaving her food untouched. "Wait!" Oceanna yelled, but her friend was already gone.

Later that day, Pepper, Oceanna and Melody stood on stage. Due to the young girl's attitude, Pepper stubbornly stuck to their previous decision. Melody watched her blond companion enviously. A tiny voice nagged at the little girl. "Look at her, constantly in the lead. You don't have to put up with this. You don't need them. They only steal the spotlight, which is rightfully yours."

Melody's eyes glistened with a crazy light. She took out her compact and opened it. Inside, the hologram of her purple rose was replaced with that of a black rose. She dropped the compact and held her hand high in the air. The other girls turned in reaction to the smack of the compact hitting the ground. Both of them gasped as the smaller girl called out "Eternal Wind, MAKE UP!"

The other two gawked as they watched their comrade change. Sailor Wind grinned at them and jutted out her chest proudly. On her bow laid a black rose. It glittered with an evil light as the stage lights shone on it. The voice in her head called out, "Destroy them!"

At the same time, Bunny had been trailing behind Usagi, watching her. They had come to a less crowded area but Bunny remained behind a building corner. At that moment she heard a similar call, "Destroy her!"

"Eternal Terra, MAKE UP!"

Sailor Terra glared at her victim. A black rose covered her small golden broach much in the same manner as Wind. Staff in hand, she charged at Usagi. "Starlight BLOSSOM!"

A vine of flowers encircled Usagi's throat. Terra pulled her victim off her feet and listened with joy to the odango struggle for air. She sneered at her as she taunted about stealing Mamoru away. Her fun ended when a red rose sliced through the vine, freeing Usagi. The blond fell to the ground, coughing and gasping as the air returned to her lungs.

With tears of anger, Sailor Terra watched Tuxedo Kamen sweep his love into his arms. She pushed away the water from her eyes with gloved hand and prepared to fight. Her eyes became crazed and she could no longer control herself with the evil intent she felt within guiding her moves. It was driving her mad. Again the voice commanded, "Get rid of her now!"

By the time Terra jumped into action she found her opponent had changed into Eternal Sailor Moon. Terra swung her staff at the moon soldier at full force. She missed and her staff cracked the pavement beneath her. Again she swung, not missing this time. The impact sent the blond to the ground but she stood up again, ready for another attack. The dark haired soldier swung and in that instant before impact Tuxedo Kamen stepped between them, taking the blow full on.

Terra's eyes became frightened as she saw the blood fly. The tip of her staff had cut into his arm. Eternal Moon screamed and ran to him. Unnoticed blood trickled down Terra's numbed arm as well. She listened as he assured Moon he was alright and told her to concentrate. The soldier nodded her head in compliance. Unable to watch them any longer The earth soldier sailed at her opponent but Moon used her staff as protection, yelling, "Eternal Moon Crystal... ATTACK!"

Sailor Terra fell forward into Tuxedo's arms. Images of Bunny's past filled his head. Everything she had ever experienced or felt became his, the painful separation of her parents, a life between two homes neither side caring what she did, forever feeling alone, wanting to be loved, desperate for friends and longing to fill the void in her life. All this he saw with amazing vividness. Then he heard her soft voice whisper in his mind, "All I ever really wanted was to find my prince, someone who I could love and would love me just as much. Someone just for me..."

She gazed up weakly and smiled through her tears. "I'm sorry my prince, my princess. I was selfish and left my duties. I just didn't want to be alone anymore, and I was scared. Forgive me."

Moon knelt beside her and whispered, "You're not alone anymore."

Terra threw her arms around Eternal Sailor Moon and held tight. Feeling the hug back, she truly knew she was no longer alone. The black rose fizzed off her broach, and two blue bows appeared over her old hair-ties. Her tiara also changed slightly, becoming more elaborate in design, marking Terra's growth. "Arigatou," she whispered.

On the stage at the Planet Academy, the two element soldiers fought their comrade unwillingly. It was becoming a losing battle as they struggled not to take anymore hits. "Turbulence STORM!" Wind yelled.

A gust of wind knocked the two soldiers down. Desperate, Fire begged her friend for an explanation, "Melody! Why are you doing this?"

"All of you are holding me back!" Wind declared, "I don't need any of you anymore! You're nothing but insects who care for nothing but yourselves! I tried to show you my potential but you just ignored me! NO MORE!"

Dark wings sprouted from her back and spread out like a bat. Effortlessly they lifted Sailor Wind into the air. Dark clouds formed in the sky and she let out a chilling laugh. She hovered, about to kill Water and Fire when a voice stopped her. "Hey guys, look who's here!"

Knowing her friend's voice well, Sailor Water's eyes widened. "Terra!"

"Yep! And I even brought help."

Wind scoffed, "Who do you think can help you?"

Eternal Moon stepped out of the shadows with Tuxedo Kamen. "I am the pretty sailor soldier who fights for love and justice, Sailor Moon! In the name of the Moon, I will punish you!"

Wind flew in the direction of the trio, but held in her aim at Tuxedo Kamen. He readied for the blow. Instinctively, Terra shot out a vine, grabbing Wind. Eternal Moon and Tuxedo Kamen's staffs appeared over their heads. Taking them and crossing the staffs, they shouted, "Eternal Crystal Healing!"

A beam of light engulfed Sailor Wind. Her dark wings disappeared along with the black rose on her outfit. Fire and Water ran to her as she slowly floated to the ground. Terra turned to Tuxedo Kamen and bowed respectfully. She spoke softly, "Arigatou once again. Please remember that we will forever protect you, my prince," she gestured toward Eternal Sailor Moon, "and all you hold dear."

She displayed a lopsided smile, winked, and ran to join her friends. Terra looked with concern at Wind. Noticing this, the young soldier reassured, "I'm fine. Don't worry."

"Thank goodness!" Terra gushed. She bent and hugged the small girl. "Thank goodness! I want you to know that I am sorry about crashing into you the other day."

"I know..." Wind gave a sly glance, "but you really should watch where you are going, you klutz! You could've killed me!"

"Hey! I just helped to save your life, you ungrateful little..."

Tuxedo and Moon listened to the element soldiers squabble childishly, even through such a celebrated reunion. Tuxedo Kamen laughed and nudged the blond. "Now who do those two remind you of?"

"Hmmm...?" she smiled innocently.

In the boiler room, the dark figure growled over its loss. "I can't believe it! I manage to infect two students and they end up being sailor soldiers!"

It looked at one of its yoma and caressed it with a gentle hand. "Well, there are still two other soldiers and a whole school of youthful minds. We'll simply have to find their weak spots." The figure's insane laugh carried throughout the room.

End Episode 04.
